Milk on the Rocks

Since the summer of 2006 and its debut collection, milk on the rocks NYC continues to deliver the most eclectic designs in children’s wear. The brand appropriates from the latest trends to deconstruct and adapt clothes for every day life. Diverse inspiration — a pop culture voyage through haute couture, our clothes are a savvy mix of original details, comfortable fabrics and surprising colors. Believe us when we tell you… your child will not want to take it off! The first milk on the rocks boutique opened its doors in December of 2005 in the heart of the 6th arrondissement in Paris. Just steps from St. Germain des Près venture to find our intermixed collection du jour, including the latest in scarce coveted gadgets from all over the world. A veritable place of art and fashion inspiration and ingenuity.

 

 

 

The team

Background: Founder and Artistic Director of milk on the rocks NYC, Julie Kang has more than 15 years of diverse design and fashion experience including: ready-to-wear at Lanvin, accessories for Claude Montana, menswear at Balmain, and uniforms for Converse and Canon. Living in Paris, today she sits at the helm creating collections of pop culture influence that instill a new respect for children’s clothing.

Love: sleeping, watching her children sleep or laugh, YouTube, her close friends, toy stores, wandering alone in a big city, Fred Astaire, buying new T-shirts and lipsticks, coffee, Ricky Gervais, shopping with her mom, boiling baths.

Inspiration: frank conversation, Taoism, Orson Welles, Björk, Stone Roses, Nirvana, John Lennon, Oscar acceptance speeches, movies, wise elderly people, Nick Knight, Tim Walker, Annie Leibovitz, Joel-Peter Witkin, Robert Rauschenberg, Oscar Wilde, Lao Tseu.



Background: After studying textile design at Duperré, Véronique Masselin imprinted her vision in fashion by creating prints and accessories textiles for over a decade working for some of France’s largest fashion houses including: Rochas, Lancel, Chloé, Paco Rabanne, and Balmain. She also went on to design home accessories prints for bedding for clients such as Le Printemps and Jalia, as well as proposed trend color palettes for Shiseido. Based in Paris, Véronique is in charge of illustrated graphics and colors for milk on the rocks NYC.

Love : Strolling in the Parisian sunshine, Springtime and cherries, cats, free time, sharing a glass of wine and a good meal with friends, family, 80s TV shows, tiny ‘kawaii’ objects, contemporary art.

Inspiration : the written word of any kind, books about art, exhibitions, travel to renew, listening to music on « Deezer » to discover or rediscover favorite singers, linking colors found nature and the city to fashion.



Background : For over a dozen years, Rosanne Kang founded and directed a design and illustration studio in New York, Enki NY Inc., specializing in graphic design, branding, illustration and event design. Her work has been appeared in publications such as Design Week, Elle and Vogue. Her clients have included: L’Oréal USA, Kiehl’s SInce 1851, AXE, Nokia, Giorgio Armani, Elle Decor, and Suntory. Rosanne is in charge of graphics, branding and photography for milk on the rocks NYC.

Love : her niece and nephew, her dog Totoro (complete with French passport), flea markets and dollar stores, hiking in the mountains, decoration of any kind, empty beaches, riding a bike at 1am in Paris

Inspiration : family and friends, movie marathons, teachers, cake decoration, her old apartment in the East Village, once inhabited by poets (good ghosts!), Jun Takahashi, Alber Elbaz, Martin Margiela, the Dalai Lama, sacred places.



Background : With a degree from Esmod International in her pocket, specializing in children’s wear, Lucie Fourny began her career working in trend forecasting for Perclers Paris and Trend Union. Her experience in textile research, fabrics and colors gave her the expertise and sensibility to create unique and innovative designs for milk on the rocks NYC. Lucie’s international experience has taken her to England, Spain and Australia. Based in Paris, she is in charge of designing new styles each season and oversees production.

Love : eating, returning from vacation with a tan, her friends, going to music festivals and concerts, Barbie, listening to music on her Ipod while walking through Paris, useless gadjets, catching her dog snoring, listening in on kids’ conversations, applying lipstick, dancing.

Inspiration : people in the street and those who follow their dreams, concept stores, Michel Gondry, Boris Vian, Bjork, M.I.A for their original universe, anticonformism.



Background : Ondine Saglio splits her time between Africa where she was born, and Paris, where she works as a photographer and design consultant for CSAO ((la Compagnie du Sénégal et de l’Afrique de l’Ouest), a company that imports African furniture, accessories and textiles. Armed with her ecclectic past, she brings a unique insight to the world of milk on the rocks NYC. Ondine is responsible for product research and merchandising of the collections.

Love : chocolate, flea markets, New York, her kids, handbags, Twilight, and Liberty.

Inspiration : travel, Radiohead, the ‘50s and ‘70s.



Background : For the last dozen years, Peter Muhlenberg has worked as a graphic designer specializing in public relations communications, sports and sponsorship marketing, and consumer goods development. His long list of clients include: Nokia, IBM, Sonic Union, and L’Oréal USA. Based in New York, he is in charge of graphics for the collection.

Love : his wife and sons, close friends, coffee, creative comedy, coaching his kids in sports, playing basketball & baseball, and building things.

Inspiration : talent, commitment, selflessness, Arcade Fire, Tegan and Sara, Death Cab for Cutie, astronomy.



Background : The final addition to the milk on the rocks NYC family, Sophie Martzloff, completed the design team in 2010, after her studies in Bordeaux with a specialty in fashion and communication design in Paris. It is here where she has worked in sourcing accessories and supplies for large French and international companies such as Jean Paul Gautier, Les Galeries Lafayette and The Kooples. Thanks to her solid foundation in design, Sophie expresses a unique sensibility at milk on the rocks NYC for designing prints, impressive windows, reporting trends and sitings for the blog, and news of the brand.

Love : funny cat photos, New York, crazy TV series, discovering hidden treasures in Paris, uncovering unusual clothes and accessories, dreaming in abstract painting, listening to loud music, making bubbles, Darth Vador.

Inspiration : Japanese fashion, Street Art, Design (furniture & gadgets), Tim Burton, Jeremy Scott, Lazy Oaf, and Les Néréides.



Background : After her studies in business, Faiza has a real passion for children and quickly integrated into the milk on the rock's team. She is the queen of super fun things like accounting, organizing and following up clients.

Love : her little sister, her little brother, in short her whole family! the magic of babies, the color pink, to eat and especially sweet candy. Vacations in Morocco, Korean drama series, old Disney movies and Bollywood.

Inspiration : Children and family values and romanticism.
